BY MAJA TOMIC                                                                              ONLINE CONTRIBUTOR

Whether you're new to Queen's and living in residence or going into your final year living in the student ghetto, there’s always time for a quick revamp of your room. Since week one is done, it’s time to get down to business! Turn your room into the perfect hang out (and find all these things for cheap and available in Kingston!) 920c0edc78a3aeefe8cc17f4efe29c19--workspace-inspiration-inspiration-wall

Posters

Posters are the number one thing to brighten a dull wall. If you’re like me and are picky about your posters, you can custom make your own posters on the Staples site and have them shipped directly to you. Allposters and Redbubble are other sites that ship to Kingston and offer a large range of different kinds of posters, from art to celebrities. You can also head over to the P&CC in the JDUC to print whatever your heart desires! 36733962_059_b

Tapestries

Like posters, tapestries can help liven up a room. Urban Outfitters on Princess has a selection of them in their upstairs home area, or you can order some from smaller sites such as Society6 which offers individual artists prints on almost any kind of medium you could imagine. If you’re on a budget: grab a sheet, group of friends, fabric paint and see where it takes you. fefb9b9e4731f20ca47ddf9d695500ec

Plants, plants and more plants

Succulents are supposedly easy to take care of (I have killed every single one I have owned within a month) and they light up your room while adding a pop of colour. I highly recommend looking into hanging plants such as English Ivy that are relatively easy to take care of and will make your room feel like a lush forest. Minotaur on Princess Street offers several different plants options and has a station where you are able to make your own air plants. 1d6cdc342c2bf7b1ff2197256d4239fc

Projector

On Amazon, you can find projectors for decently cheap (ranging between $30-70). Shipping right to your room, these projectors can connect to your laptop or phone and make your room perfect for Netflix binge-watching on a larger scale. Grab a white sheet and you have the coziest theatre from your own bed. aHR0cCUzQSUyRiUyRnd3dy5zZmdpcmxieWJheS5jb20lMkZ3cC1jb250ZW50JTJGdXBsb2FkcyUyRjIwMTYlMkYwMSUyRkhPTUU1LmpwZw==

Trinkets/Stubs

If I ever travel or go to a concert, I tend to hold on to stubs of where I’ve went and by the end of the year I make a huge collage on my walls incorporating all of these little trinkets of my past year. It’s a cheap way to add character to your room and have stories to tell to the people who come through. Processed with VSCO with a6 preset

Abstract Shelves

A unique shelf can add a lot to a room. Triangle, hexagon and other shapes cubicles are incredibly popular right now and are super easy to find. These shelves are normally made out of wood and add a different medium to your room, making them not only purposeful but stand out. Check out Esty for lots of different and uncommon shelves and CB2 for more modern shelving.
