MUSE X DIY: Falling for Soap
Fall soaps are a great and easy way to get festive for the season, and they also make fantastic gifts. The best part about soap making is that you can customize the scents and colours to create your own personalized soap.
Time: 30 minutes prep, 1 hour waitMaterials:-Soap base (clear or opaque)-Soap scents-Soap colouring (make sure to use dyes specifically made for soaps, food colouring will stain the skin)-Molds (I used Tupperware containers)-Parchment paper (optional)I used a soap kitbecause it ended up being cheaper than buying all the ingredients separately. All the materials can be found at your local craft store! You can also put other ingredients in your soap, such as oatmeal and honey.
- Cut up the soap base into smaller chunks, and put them into a microwave safe bowl
- Microwave for about 30 seconds, and stir well till the mixture is a liquid consistency
- Put any colouring dyes or other ingredients (I used oatmeal) as desired. As for scents or extracts, only use 1 -2 drops because they are extremely concentrated. I used oats, and mixed the red and yellow dye to make my mixture orange.
- Pour your soap mixture into a bowl and let it set for about 1 hour. To speed up the process, you can also let the soap chill in the fridge.
- Pop them out of your molds! The soap should be able to pop out easily.
- Use parchment paper to wrap your soaps, they protect the soaps from chipping. For a personal touch, you can also add labels or stickers (Or use our designs here: MUSE Soap Labels)
Soap is a surprisingly easy DIY that makes great gifts for the holidays. Soap can also be used for a lovely sachet in a drawer, to keep your clothes smelling great.
