The Best Kingston Eats
Sometimes living on campus can leave you feeling a bittrapped in your routine. You never get the chance to treat yourself tosomewhere a little more ~bougie~. Out of this emerges Union Cocktails Kitchenand Bar, a new restaurant that somehow manages the art of dinner and brunch(separately, not together, this distinction is very important), and throws somecool cocktails into the mix as well.
I think what I like most about Union is that it’s very unique within downtown Kingston. It is a place to hang out with friends and grab brunch and take advantage of their $4 mimosas (on Sunday’s), but you could also easily bring a date there or have a fun night out trying their fancy drinks. Some of the highlights include :
- StrawberryCobbler
- Strawberries, Ketel One vodka, simple syrup, margarita mix
- PinkHotel
- Gummy bearinfused Ketel One, peach schnapps, cranberry juice
- PrimsMojito
- Captain Morgan’s spiced rum, mint, strawberry rhubarb coulis, lime juice & soda
Frankly, I think we all need alittle more novelty in our life once and awhile. Unlike ordering fancy drinksin a nightclub, the atmosphere of The Union allows for actual enjoyment andconversation. Plus, on Tuesdays they sell draft sleeves for $4, for when theMonday blues last a little longer than expected. Of course, the Union wouldn’tbe able to distinguish itself as one of the finer things in Kingston oncocktails alone; their menu strikes a perfect balance between sophisticated andcomfort food. If you’re looking for a proper, filling, high quality burger thenyou need to try The Contender. Or, if you’re feeling fancy then try the Steak, paired with caramelized onion and cheese mashed potatoes on a bed of asparagusin a red wine demi glace (it will leave you feeling as if heaven melted in yourmouth). Of course there are also options for gluten free, vegetarian and vegan.
Essentially, what makes Unionstand out in the competitive food market of downtown Kingston is that each dishis high quality, and you feel as if ordering a burger is somehow asophisticated option. This is also the result of the atmosphere that Union hascreated for itself, and it is one of chic elegance; the iconic Kingstonlimestone is accented by grey tones and warm lighting. It is elegant andrefined without being stuffy, or requiring a dress shirt (although I don’tthink Queer Eye’s Tan France would object to this being the perfect opportunityto try a ‘French Tuck’). Union allows itself to be adaptable as an impressiveplace to take a date, or a fun place to escape with friends for a night out.
Check it out, you won’t be sorry.
