Seeing the Light

WHITE2

It's no secret that I'm a (very) firm believer in the “all black everything” mantra, so you can imagine my distress at the sight of head-to-toe white cropping up on fashion blogs and SS14 runways. White? White!?After taking a few deep breaths and convincing myself that I was (technically) not a traitor, I reluctantly opened my mind to the possibility of a shade other than black having a turn in my closet. With warm weather on my mind and online shopping at my fingertips, I took to the internet to find some pieces that make this whole white thing look pretty damn hot.

Despite being slightly more bold than it’s monochrome counterpart, white has a crisp yet classic appeal that has inspired a spring wardrobe revolution: in other words, my natural gravitation towards black is about to be averted.A total whiteout - although deeply admired and highly encouraged - is a look that's  slightly impractical and perhaps better left for the street style stars... but that doesn’t mean that a hit of white can’t find its way into your everyday wardrobe. This season is all about freshening white up with texture and structure. Organza, lace and crotchet details are key to giving the shade an updated look, and structured, modern cuts keep things clean and contemporary. All of fashion’s favourite staples, from the classic envelope purse to that little dress, have been converted from black to white– and they look just as good, if not better, in their bleached out form. And for those not completely willing to give up their devotion to the dark side… white’s partner in crime this season just so happens to be black. So whether you’re rocking a bold black-and-white pattern, or a pair of tuxedo-inspired slacks, you can relish in all of your monochromatic glory guilt-free.
