Street Style Queen’s: Winter Edition

Street- Style Queen’s: Winter EditionWhen the temperature drops, the last thing we want to do is crawl out of our warm beds and trudge across campus to our 8:30 classes. On most days, there is a strong temptation to throw on a hoodie and a pair of sweats. And the idea of looking like an urban Eskimo doesn’t seem too awful if it means surviving the awful winter weather. But before you give up attempting to balance being stylish and feeling cozy in this -22 degree weather, check out some fashion inspiration from your fellow Queen’s students.Untitled-1IMG_8550Name: Maddie D.Wearing: Wilfred sweater, and Pull & Bear jeansFavourite thing about winter fashion: “I love being able to wear big knit sweaters and add layers to any outfit to make it cozier. Plus, having a big turtleneck to keep me warm on my -20 degree walk to class is key!” Winter accessories add so much to an outfit. Not only do hats and scarves keep you warm, but they also are fun to mix and match. I’m digging the way the following two boys accessorize.IMG_5405Untitled-2Name: Sam W.Wearing: Hat from the OVO store, and Topman shirtFavourite thing about winter fashion: “My favourite thing about winter fashion is the layering. I also love wearing over-sized articles and getting that vintage-vibe.” Untitled-1Name: Joe P.Wearing: Carhartt sweater, and Wildboy hatFavourite thing about winter fashion: “I love wearing winter boots!” It’s natural to lean towards a colour palette of black and gray in the winter. But adding a splash of colour will make you stand out. Be bold and beat the winter blues just like Leigha and Caitlin.IMG_8407IMG_8415Name: Leigha S.Wearing: Sirens top, and Ardenes floppy hatFavourite thing about winter fashion: “I would have to say being able to dress in layers because you can create more possible looks!” IMG_8592IMG_8603Untitled-3 Name: Caitlin C.Wearing: Doc Martin Boots, Layla Oil Slick headphones by Frends. and Zara jacketFavourite thing about winter fashion: “Winter is a great time to experiment with layering in order to create different types of looks and styles. I like winter fashion because I’m able to wear different types of accessories, and heavier pieces that I wouldn’t be able to wear in any other season.” Bundle up by layering up. Sometimes, layering different patterns and colours could end up disastrous and give off a tacky vibe. The trick is to keep it simple. Invest in basics; articles that you love on their own, and as a part of an ensemble. Layering light articles of clothing will also prevent the bulky look you would get from throwing on a chunky sweater.Untitled-4IMG_8502Name: Will C.Wearing: American Apparel jacketFavourite thing about winter fashion: “I like being able to wear oversized outerwear.” IMG_8619 IMG_8627 IMG_8654 Name: Michiru K.Wearing: Urban Outfitters sweater, and Aldo backpackFavourite thing about winter fashion: “My favourite thing about winter is definitely being able to wear oversized sweaters and infinity scarves. It’s a plus for me when I can style them together!” And of course, invest in the key feature of your winter wardrobe—a warm, yet stylish, coat.IMG_8520 Untitled5 IMG_8515Name: Kendra G.Wearing: Danier coat, and Forever 21 jacketFavourite thing about winter fashion: “Truthfully, my favourite thing is being able to wear fuzzy socks all the time.” Stay warm and stylish, Queen’s.Yours Creatively,Amy Yu, Online ContributorPhotography: Jaclyn McConnell and Amy Yu
