It’s impossible to recap the past 365 days worth of fashion but here’s a brief attempt... The 90’s returned and gave the decade’s infamous grunge trend a good name, "it" girl Cara Delevingne redefined the notoriously smug model pout (it’s way cooler to cross your eyes) and showed us what a good pair of eyebrows really look like, Isabel Marant made H&M that much more chic, Kate Moss donned a set of bunny ears and posed for Playboy - because why the hell not - Miley twerked and tongue wagged her way to pop stardom in itsy bitsy teeny weeny ….erm, “outfits", Kate Middleton made maternity look glamorous, and Beyoncé did the unthinkable (you know what we’re talking about) with supermodels Joan Smalls, Chanel Iman, and Jourdan Dunn in on the action. Overall, 2013 was a whirlwind year in fashion and we feel lucky to have witnessed it all.

It's only fitting that MUSE rings in the new year by taking a look at our own executive’s fashion moments of 2013. From our favorite purchase of the year, to our style resolutions for 2014, here’s MUSE fashion then and now.

 Emma Hoffman, Editor-in-ChiefFavourite fashion purchase of 2013:I’m obsessed with the Franco Sarto “Benton” boots I purchased in October. Not only do they give off a f*cking badass vibe, they’re both trend-conscious and utilitarian. Although “practical” is definitely NOT a word I would usually associate with my style aesthetic, the leather toe of the boot is totally practical, while its suede upper and zipper detailing adds some visual flair to an otherwise simple silhouette. Although I won’t be hopping on a motorcycle anytime soon, the boot’s motorcycle-inspired harness is the perfect detail for incorporating a touch of anarchy into any outfit.Style resolution for 2014:I must confess, I’m a full-fledged sweater addict, and I physically cannot fit any more chunky knits into my “sweater closet” (it’s a thing, I kid you not). Especially throughout the past few winters, I have accumulated a sweater collection that would rival the wardrobe of The Cosby Show. My style resolution for 2014 is to curb my spending and start buying things that will last as opposed to trendy pieces and items similar to the ones I already own. It will be difficult to refrain from snapping up every cozy, cuddly, and woolly sweater I lay my eyes on, but I know that it will be worth it to preserve both the space in my wardrobe and the money in my wallet. Jenna Demchuk, Creative DirectorFavourite fashion purchase of 2013:My Sydney Evan 'love' necklace in rosegold.Style resolution for 2014:I want to accumulate more classic and timeless pieces over super trendy ones to avoid getting bored with my closet! Hemani Kamdar, Business Director Favourite fashion purchase of 2013:I'm really torn about my favourite purchase of 2013, but it just might have to be: the Kaylan navy quilted moto jacket with leather details from Club Monaco, and this "Bad man" graphic tee from Ichiban that I just can't get over for some reason.Style resolution for 2014:My style resolution for 2014 is to stop buying so much black and grey, and to try to play with more colours. And to not give into leggings when I wake up 15 minutes before class. Judy To, Business DirectorFavourite fashion purchase of 2013:Definitely this shearling fur vest from H&M  that I've been living in (literally) for the past few days. Beyond keeping me alive in this bitter -25 degree weather, it's the perfect layering piece that can be worn on its own or with just about anything. AND, unlike my fur fur vest, this one's casual-ish enough to wear on campus without getting the "betch-why-are-you-so-dressed-up" look from everyone.Style resolution for 2014:I seriously need to work on trying things on BEFORE buying them. I've wasted way too much money on clothes that make me look frumpy and drowning because they just don't fit right. Then it all ends up sitting in a sad corner in my closet. It's really depressing. Rachel Wong, Online Vlogger Favourite fashion purchase of 2013:My camouflage jeans from Urban Outfitters. They were such a steal at only 20 dollars! They're unique and I wear them all the time; definitely an item that you can dress up and down and wear in all seasons.Style resolution for 2014:To wear more colour! I love black and grey but I definitely need to step outside my comfort zone. I'm in search of a neon beanie! Jennifer Shamie, Entertainment Editor  Favourite fashion purchase of 2013:My Kaylan quilted jacket from Club Monaco. This crisp white jacket was a great alternative to my classic black leather jacket.Style resolution for 2014:I want to start online shopping. A ton of my friends take a pass on busy malls and crowded stores and shop online instead. This year I want to check out the popular sites Net-A-Porter, Shopbop, and Nasty Gal. Abi Conners, Online EditorFavourite fashion purchase of 2013:I’m obsessed with this shearling vest I bought from a thrift shop in my hometown. It was a complete steal, and it doesn’t even have a label on it! It’s super versatile and it adds that cozy factor to all of my outfits.  I also made some of the best denim purchases of my life this past summer: I bought a Vero Moda denim and leather motorcycle jacket that became a staple in my fall wardrobe, and a pair of Moto boyfriend jeans that put skinnies to shame - comfort and style wise. I may never go back to skinny jeans again!Style resolution for 2014:Mom and Dad, I hope you’re reading this, because I’m resolving to put the brakes on my shopping habits this year (or at least, I’m resolving to try). I’m going to be more cautious when making purchases—especially money wise— and try to distinguish between my needs and my wants. Of course I want another leather jacket, but realistically, do I actually need one?
