- Kat Von D’s lipstick name causes controversy. Fans of Sephora have no doubt run into Kat Von D’s collection of makeup. Having recently released a lipstick in the collection titled “Underage Red”, the tattoo artist and makeup mogul has received a lot of backlash, including claims that the lipstick name promotes sexual promiscuity in young girls. Von D claims that the title has nothing to do with the sexualisation of young girls; instead, she says the name was inspired by her parents disappointment in her constant wearing of red lipstick at the age of 16, since they deemed it inappropriate for her age. She later released a statement saying, "I refuse to sacrifice my integrity and creative freedom... I will not be pulling 'Underage Red' from my collection. And no. This is not an apology."
- Glee premieres its finale. After six seasons, the television series has finally ended in a two-hour series finale. The episode is loaded with several flashbacks, and takes a look at the progress of the characters over the years. The episode also paid tribute to Cory Monteith.
- Emilio Pucci appoints new creative director. Massimo Giorgetti will replace Peter Dundas, after a seven year run with the brand. Massimo Giorgetti already designs for MSGM, and will split his time with designing for Pucci as well. His first collection is set to debut in September, during Milan fashion week.
- Rihanna is the new face of Christian Dior. RiRi is now the first black woman to be the face of Christian Dior, and will be a part of the brand’s fourth video series. Rihanna’s new position marks a new era of diversity within the fashion industry. She told MTV “It feels fantastic”. Along with this most recent coup, RiRi will be starring in her first animation film titled Home this month, and will be releasing her eight album this year.
- Drake contributes to an art exhibition at Sotheby’s. 2015 is the year for Drake: the 6 God will be contributing this spring to an exhibition at Sotheby’s, focused on the work of contemporary black artists. He will be providing music pairings throughout the exhibit at Sotheby headquarters in New York, and is not even being paid for it. Who needs to get paid when you’re Drake, right?
- Kendrick’s album is out early. The much anticipated, second major album called To Pimp A Butterfly by rap genius Kendrick Lamar was released a week early after a leak online. Kendrick told Rolling Stone that the title was a play on Harper Lee’s novel To Kill A Mockingbird, describing it as "a trip”. The 16-track album features Snoop Dog, George Clinton, and Pharrell Williams, veering away from Kendrick's usual producers but easily living up to expectations from the hip-hop industry.
