Music Monday: Current Events
As the Music Editor of MUSE, it’s my job to keep an ear out for good, new tunes (tough life, I know). Unlike the current events of my middle school days, I had a lot of fun researching and finding these guys — fresh off the press 1. Wolf Sage ft. LYON – You Only Live Once (The Strokes Cover) I’m a HUGE Strokes fan (saw them at Governor’s Ball – they were everything I dreamed they would be) so naturally I’m extremely judgmental when it comes to anyone covering them. Wolf Saga featuring LYON does YOLO justice. By going a completely different aesthetic, they were able to retain the original’s good vibes while making it their own with dreamy synth and electro sounds. Thumbs up from a die-hard Strokes fan.https://soundcloud.com/enterwolfsaga/wolflyon-yolo 2. Daddy - This Charming ManJames Franco, this man evidently can do everything because he just released a “Smith’s inspired album” and the real kicker is that he was able to get Andy Rourke on board (yep, the Smith’s bassists). Titled “Let Me Get What I Want”, Franco and his band “Daddy” do the Smith’s proud and you can stream their first single “This Charming Man” via the link.http://www.vice.com/read/watch-the-meta-music-video-by-james-francos-band-daddy-455 3. Leon Bridges – Coming HomeTexan Leon Bridges brings back soul music in a big way. Coming Home is a throwback to classic tunes and the kind of love songs that define romance. A great one to look out for fans of Allen Stone, Mayer Hawthorne and smooth classic soul. Count me in.https://soundcloud.com/leonbridges/coming-home 4. Marian Hill – Got ItPhiladelphia electro pop duo Marian Hill’s new track “Got It” is just so fun. This is the kind of song that you would hear out dancing and also listen on repeat all day.https://soundcloud.com/marianhill/got-it5. Matoma – Hello vs. Party and Bullshit (Matoma Remix) (It’s a bit explicit, so if you’re sensitive — you know what to do)Hitting you up with some straight up hip-hop to end this list off. The Norwegian music producer mixed up Notorious B.I.G’s “Party and Bullshit” with NWA’s “Hello” and if you weren’t into it before – you are now. If you like this, also check out his remix of James Vincent Mcmorrow's Higher Love.https://soundcloud.com/matoma-official/hello-vs-party-bullshit-matoma-remixYours Creatively,Tiffany Tang, Music Editor
