The Power of Doof Doof

The only genre that really shows that you can dance like nobody's watching.

The best part of house music is that you can truly dance like nobody’s watching. You don't even need to know any of the words to have a good time, all that’s required of you is to vibe along how you feel best suits you. Everyone is so wrapped up in the immense pull of the music that no matter how you’re dancing everyone accepts it and encourages it. House music doesn’t judge you, it actually brings people together.

A few summers ago I went to Rüfüs Du Sol with a huge group of my cousins. This was really my first introduction to house music, and it quickly became one of the top three concerts I’ve ever been to. Being exposed to a new genre of music, as well as a new artist on top of that, made me decide to always take a chance on artists that I’m not familiar with, to gain new, memorable experiences. During the concert we found a spot where we could all spread out, we got in a circle and just hugged, jumped, and connected to the music together. Ever heard of Innerbloom by Rüfüs Du Sol? It seems to be a staple song in the world of electronic dance music. Listening to that song live and for the first time was indescribable. After asking a few friends how Innerbloom makes them feel, some said it was like they were flying or floating, others said it was like an out-of-body experience in the most blissful way possible. Essentially, it’s a euphoria provoking song. Who wouldn’t want to listen to house music after learning that?!

I just moved into a new house this year and had to find ways to bond with my new roommates. We immediately bonded over our shared love of house music! This became a great way for all of us to get closer and now we do listening parties. Rüfüs Du Sol’s new album came out and we all sat together as a group to listen to it for the first time. We constantly show each other new house music songs to add to our playlists. Our Sunday house cleaning sessions always involve some EDM to get us hyped about mopping the floors or dusting the shelves.

Whether it’s to inspire you to get into a totally pumped-up motivated mood to go to class or have a killer workout session, I have high hopes that you too, will explore what the power of doof doof can do for you!
