New Year, New You

10886579_10204602536156907_498196817_oWait, I’m sorry, what? It’s 2015?! How did that happen? I don’t feel any different, I don’t really think I look that different, although I must admit I’m having a great hair day so maybe that’s new. But seriously, what’s the big deal about New Year’s? If you’re thinking that, I have some news for you: make a change! It doesn’t have to be something huge like give up swearing or to cut back on chocolate, it can be something as easy as smiling for 5 minutes every morning. It’s a new year –why not make a fresh start? After doing some research I have found the top New Year’s resolutions, they are as follows:

  • Drink less
  • Give up smoking
  • Lose weight/ get fit

These are all great, but they don’t really make me want to jump for joy, so I have made my own resolutions.Do at least 15 minutes of yoga everydaySomething I have noticed in the past few years is that the older I get the stiffer I become. It kinda sucks. A lot. I feel sluggish, tired, sore, and a little stretching everyday could help relax and loosen those muscles up. Also, yoga is great for your inner mind and your psychy, so keeping up a regular routine would help so much with my stress and anxiety levels (now that’s what I call a win-win).10881192_10204602535636894_3904924_nSwear lessThis one is a very personal one. I have nothing against people who swear, I in fact find it really soothing to cuss someone out who cuts you off on the highway, but it’s lazy. I find swearing too easy and also it can be pretty hurtful to someone especially if they did something rude/stupid/annoying/thoughtless as an accident. I believe in the philosophy of treating others the way you would like to be treated, and I for one do not like to be sworn at.10899598_10204602535716896_570047772_nMake a jar of happinessI have seen these a lot in the past few days and I am so inspired! Every day or every time something lovely happens you write it down and put it in the jar. Then at the end of this year you open it and read all the positive things that happened to you. It seems very sweet and very easy to do, and also a great practice for keeping a positive mind!10893845_10204602535836899_1192002083_nEat healthy 80% of the time 2014 was the year of health and fitness fanatics, and although that year is over this trend does not need to end. I am not one for crazy diets or fast-fat-burning fads, but I do believe in moderation. By giving yourself 80% on time for healthy eating and 20% of stuff you really enjoy, you’ll be happier, feel less guilty about sneaking some chocolate, and also you’ll feel more willing to go out with friends without fear of finding something super healthy on the menu. Obviously it’s not the healthiest option, but for me 2015 is a year of happiness.10893842_10204602535796898_686146971_n Doubt myself lessDoubt is one of my biggest flaws. It riddles my life, haunts my dreams, and prevents me from deciding where/what I want for dinner. I always second guess myself and I always have to ask someone else for their opinion on what I should do or choose. That is no way to live! I want this year to be about me becoming assertive and taking charge of my choice and accepting them full on! I don’t want to keep feeling like I’ve made the wrong choice, commitment is the way to go!And there, these five small, simple, yet effect resolutions are the only ones I will make for the New Year. Although I am not curing world hunger, or solving the longest math puzzle around, I am making positive and easy to keep changes for my life which I hope will make me happier. At the end of the day, you have to put your oxygen mask on first before assisting another, therefore you must find happiness within yourself before helping someone else find theirs! (Yeah, kinda cat-postery, but whatever it’s cute).Have a happy New Year!Yours Creatively,Leandra Guillet, Online ContributorPhotography: Tumblr and Leandra GuilletYou can read more of Leandra’s thoughts at Little Miss
