The Magic of Majestic

My friends love teasing me when it comes to my biggest addiction.  They say I “have a superiority complex when it comes to my taste in music”.  I think this statement is a bit extreme, but if you know me, you’re probably aware that I’m THAT girl on your Facebook news feed.  You know, the one harassing her friends with links to obscure DJ podcasts, remixes and new songs, with captions like “OMG BEST EVER”, “LIFE CHANGER”, and “KITCHEN DANCE PARTY AT 5?”.  You can call it social media abuse, but in reality it boils down to possessing a simple love of sharing music.  For that reason, I’m going to let you in on one of my favourite sources for new songs- Majestic Casual. When seeking inspiration, you can bet that one of my first stops is this Youtube channel.  Majestic promotes itself with the tagline “Experience Music in a New Way”, and boasts a description that reads “[the] finest in garage, house, hiphop and electronic”- however, it is so much more than this.  Majestic is truly an aesthetic experience, featuring beautiful sounds and gorgeous images to accompany them.  Spend an hour listening to the songs posted on this channel, and you will find yourself transported from reality.  For that reason, I consider Majestic superior to other music sources like Songza, 8tracks, or The Hype Machine.Boasting almost 400 000 subscribers, over 600 videos, and daily posts, Majestic is growing in popularity faster than ever since it’s 2011 establishment.  When I first discovered the channel, I wasn’t too enthusiastic about electronic music, but my interest in the genre grew entirely after a few visits, as a result of the exceptional taste of the account’s curator.  I think the success of Majestic is based in it’s ability to serve both niche and general audiences alike.  This is accomplished by featuring an equal combination of original songs and remixes, including new twists on old favourites, like throwback hits from Destiny’s Child and The Notorious B.I.G..  Majestic can be credited as a major source of the rising popularity of artists such as Cyril Hahn, Ryan Hemsworth, Daughter and CHVRCHES, and provides a full description that includes links to the artist’s Soundcloud and Facebook accounts for when you’re ready to discover more.My favourite thing about this channel is its ability to transcend moods and activities.  It’s great for everything-from dance parties, to hanging out with friends, to reading on a sunny afternoon.  And, what better time for you to discover the Majestic Casual world than exam season?!  You can bet the chill vibes of these selections will soothe your 3 AM organic chemistry-induced mental breakdown or serve as the perfect soundtrack to your PSYC 100 review session. If you’re not familiar with the Majestic Casual world, don’t fret!  I’ll introduce you to some of my all-time favourite posts, and you can experience for yourself the magic of Majestic…
