The Real Issue with Kim Kardashian's Newest Nude

NOT-SO-BREAKING NEWS: Kim Kardashian posted another nude photo. Although I don’t think most people would consider this a new thing for Kim Kardashian, for some reason, this particular nude picture really struck a nerve for a number of people. Because it’s 2016, this angry backlash naturally occurred through a sass-filled Twitter argument between Kim and her haters. The two most prominent among those commenting on the naked picture were Chloe Grace Moretz and Bette Midler. Although the two women had very different tones in their tweets, their message was the same: “Put it away, Kim.” Unsurprisingly, Kim took to Twitter to fire back at her critics. Probably not the best way to handle this, Kim. Instead of jumping on an opportunity for a discussion about body confidence, Kim decided to add more hate to the rage-fuelled fire, which, unfortunately, is no less than what was expected from her.kimkThe real issue with the whole situation isn’t that someone posted a naked picture. What is most upsetting about it is that women were hating on another woman for feeling great about her body. Although you’ll get no arguments from me that Kim certainly has kept very little secret, I really see nothing wrong with what she did. I don’t like Kim Kardashian, nor do I like how she became famous, and although I don’t think she should be considered a role model for girls, I do think her body confidence is something to be admired. No, I am not suggesting that every girl post a naked photo, but we shouldn’t hate on each other if that happens to be how someone chooses to display their confidence. Women should be empowering and encouraging one another to feel amazing in their own skin as opposed to picking on one another each time we show confidence. There definitely is much more to a woman than her body, just as there is with any person regardless of their gender. Unfortunately, so much of a woman's worth in our society seems to be based off of her physical appearance. With all the negative influences on a girl’s perception of her body, shouldn’t we admire the women in the spotlight that break through those self-esteem issues and feel empowered and beautiful? Kim Kardashian isn’t the only one that exudes body positivity, but she certainly seems to be the one that attracts the most hate for it, solely because of the way she chooses to display it.As I sit here writing this on International Women’s Day, all I can think is “Why was this such a big deal?” I mean sure, maybe that’s a little more of Kim Kardashian than you were expecting to see on a Monday morning, and yes, she definitely didn’t handle the situation well at all. But really, in the grand scheme of things, why is posting a naked photo so horrible? A quote I saw while doing my first thing in the morning Instagram stalk said, “Nudity empowers some. Modesty empowers some. Different things empower different women and it’s not your place to tell her which one it is.”Yours Creatively,Hannah Davis, Marketing CoordinatorImage via Kim Kardashian’s Instagram
