Fashion Month SS 2016 Highlights
Spring/Summer 2016 Fashion Month recently wrapped up, and in case you missed it, here is everything you need to know from the runways of New York, London, Milan, and Paris Fashion Weeks SS16:1) Rick Owens’ Human BackpacksOne of Paris Fashion Week’s biggest buzz moments was when Rick Owens sent human backpacks down his runway. The designer described his collection as inspired by motherhood, sisterhood, nourishment, and regeneration. His SS16 show featured lightweight materials, drapery, exposed nudity, and humans harnessed to the models from both the front and the back.

2) Chanel AirlinesThis season at Paris Fashion Week, Chanel took us on a journey at an airport that clearly only flies to paradise. Once again, Karl Lagerfeld delivered a spectacular show at Terminal 2C, gate n°5, of Aeroport Paris-Cambon, hosted by the Grand Palais. The collection itself was a marriage of different prints, textiles, and colours from all over the world, while still embracing the classic Chanel demeanour. Airport life never looked so good.

3) Movie Night with Marc JacobsMarc Jacobs closed New York Fashion Week with a popcorn-filled night at the Ziegfeld Theatre in Manhattan. The night started off at the red carpet, where the models lined up in front of a Marc Jacobs backdrop as if they were getting their photos taken. It then moved to inside the theatre where the show began, as the models walked down the runway in Broadway and Americana-themed looks.

4) Yeezy Season 2Kanye surprised us all by scheduling a show last-minute at New York Fashion Week. Very similar to his first collection, Yeezy Season 1, his latest collection featured a muted colour palette, elevated everyday pieces such as sweatshirts and baggy tees, and a diverse selection of models, all presented in a military-like drill.

5) But First...Let Dolce & Gabbana take a SelfieSelfies took over the runway at Dolce & Gabbana’s show in Milan – the models snapped pictures of themselves as they walked down the runway. The collection was inspired by the history and culture of Italy with the quote “Italia is Love” embroidered on many pieces, along with some of Italy’s most historical sites such as the Colosseum and the Leaning Tower of Pisa.

6) Alexander Wang bids Balenciaga FarewellThe Balenciaga show in Paris marked designer Alexander Wang’s final show with the French fashion house. The designer was all smiles as he ran/danced down the runway, and snapped a selfie as he took a bow at his last Balenciaga show. It has been announced that Demna Gvasalia, the head designer for Vetements, will be taking over for Wang.

7) Chalayan’s Melting DressesOne of the most memorable outfits of Paris Fashion Week was no doubt Hussein Chalayan’s melting dress. The designer created two outfits that dissolved under a shower to reveal a whole different outfit. Quite the show stopper if you ask me.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6o3jP1rfY7Y8) The Opening Ceremony Ballet Opening Ceremony collaborated with the New York City Ballet and pranked us all by choreographing falls and stumbles into show. The models twirled and pranced down the runway, and occasionally would fall to "break the monotony of the runway," according to creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim.
